Jose Ricardo Villalta Canales sued Officer Joseph Caw and 2 other officers; the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources and its police; and the State of Maryland alleging unlawful seizure and arrest in violation of the Fourth Amendment. Plaintiff was detained while assisting a relative of his to cut down a tree, but they didn’t have the required license. The suit resulted in a settlement agreement that included changes to the way the defendants handle immigration-related issues as well as a monetary settlement.
